The Wayward Society Wiki will have a non-restrictive, baseline canon that can be nudged over time with a contributor vote. Essentially, this means that Wayward will have official lore pages with definitions for terms and history widely accepted to be canon by authors, which writers will be encouraged to abide by when drafting, but not restricted to.
This is our canon philosophy. Not quite one canon, but not quite multiple.
What does this mean?
This means that our canon is based around the Society Information Pages. Every new author will see these pages, and we will highly encourage new authors to utilize them. Because it is just encouragement, it means that Wayward staff will not be heavily curating articles for noncompliance with the lore pages, making it optional to regard or disregard anything in these pages.
As Society lore develops, we will be adding new definitions and canon proposals to these Society Information pages through contributor vote. This in essence will always allow the Wayward Society Wiki's narrative to progress without completely strangling writer freedom.
How?
User Mark2817 has a cool idea! He has written multiple articles in which he has showcased Wayward Society Identification Cards! People like it very much, so the community at large is debating over whether or not it should be added to the Society Information so it can be used as an option when identifying people involved in an article.
Here is what happens when Mark2817 wants to add this to the Society Information Page.
**Proposal Authors:** Who is putting this proposal forward?
**Example Articles:** List at least **ten** examples of where this proposal idea was used well.
**Proposal:** What is it you want to us to add to the Society Information pages? If you would like it to be an entire separate tab, put a link to your sandbox here.
**What do you think this proposal will add to the wiki that is of value?** Self-explanatory.
**Additional Comments:** Optional. Put any additional comments you want here.
1. Mark fills out a Canon Proposal Form. It has been provided above. He messages site staff with a link to a sandbox page containing the filled out proposal.
2. He waits for the idea to get approved.
3. Once his idea has been approved, he will be notified by staff. Staff will then put it to a poll in the "Site Canon Vote" forum category.
Follow Mark2817's steps if you wish to do the same.
What about more important things?
These proposals can also include more larger things such as an increasing of the list of definitions, an addition of lore widely accepted by the community, and more.
Here is a list outlining what staff generally don't accept to put to vote. This list will be expanded as time goes on.
MOSTLY NO
Proposals which attempt to propose a definitive end for the Wayward Society as an organization.
ABSOLUTELY NO
Proposals which attempt to intermingle the Wayward canon with another one such as the SCP Foundation or RPC Authority.
Meme proposals
Requirements?
A proposal should have at least ten or more examples of where it is used well. As our site population grows, this number will change. These examples should be rated highly in the 3.7 to 5 star range.
Yes, you read correctly. Ten. This is to prevent a new author from rapidly writing a few articles and then trying to get that idea into the canon.
Who can vote/contribute?
Anyone who is a contributor to our Wiki in some fashion. At the time of the vote, we will open a forum titled "Proposal Vote". In the forum, contributors (official site and discord staff, critique, article authors, artists, video content creators, and coders who have done work on navigational pages) are able to respond. In this post, it must be formatted like this:
Vote: yes/no
Reason: (optional)
Proof of Contribution:
Site Writing Contributors
For authors, you must provide a link to a work on the site that is valid and above 2.5 stars in rating. This article must not have been submitted after the vote was opened.
For critique-givers, give a link to an article you have critiqued recently. This means the last two weeks. Also, you can’t submit an example of an article/video/critique/artwork you have submitted after the vote was opened.
For code contributors, site staff will most likely know who you are, but make sure to include a link to an official navigational page you have contributed code to.
Digital Media Contributors
For artists, link an article or hub page your work is featured on. These works can not have been added to the pages after the vote was opened.
For video content creators, you must link two videos you have done on Wayward, and your subscriber/follower count must be at least 200. Neither of these videos should provided if their upload date was after the opening of the current vote.
WARNING: Those found to be abusing this system in any way will be disqualified from voting until a set date to be decided by staff on a case-by-case basis, and your vote will not be counted.
When formally adding a definition, do we consult the original author?
Absolutely. The original author should be consulted. If they are unable to be reached we will handle it case-by-case.
